“I feel empowered when I am in scenarios that reach consensus. Where can we reconcile. It happened to me with the prototyping group. We need to define things, but we have the commitment. In half an hour we organize many things because there is commitment. It disempowers me when you arrive on a stage and want to act but there is no means to do so. I have to learn to accept the differences. Sometimes one is so dictator, imposes. It generates a shock. You have to lower that a bit. Also, handle the times. Sometimes you have to understand the times the processes take. ”

“Me siento empoderada cuando estoy en escenarios que se llegan a consensos. Dónde podemos conciliar. Me pasó con el grupo de prototipaje. Nos hace falta definir cosas, pero tenemos el compromiso. En media hora organizamos muchas cosas porque hay compromiso. Me desempodera cuando llegas a un escenario y quieres actuar pero no hay medios para hacerlo. Tengo que aprender a aceptar las diferencias. A veces uno es tan dictador, impone. Genera un choque. Hay que bajarle un poquito a eso. También, manejar los tiempos. A veces uno tiene que entender los tiempos que toman los procesos.”

Initiative: Hands That Weave New Women, Buenaventura

Description: HTWNW is social, cultural and community work through which I want to visibilize the experience of women who have been victims of violence and for whom its become hard to reintegrate into society. This is a healing space, with cultural and social activities centered on our ancestral roots. We preserve funeral rites, and create poetry and stories among others forms of creative expression. We aim to create comfortable space that feels familiar. Through our activities, we contribute to the permanence of Afro-Indigenous traditions of the region, and to the social development and visibility of people who have not found a way to denounce violence. HTWNW is a circle of 12 women culture bearers in Buenaventura.

Iniciativa:  MANOS QUE TEJEN NUEVAS MUJERES, Buenaventura  

Descripción: MQTNM realizó un trabajo social, cultural y comunitario, a través del cual podemos visibilizar la experiencia de mujeres que han sido víctimas de violencia y que enfrentan dificultades reintegrándose a la sociedad. Realizamos espacios de sanación y actividades culturales y sociales centradas en raíces ancestrales. Con ritos fúnebres, poesías y cuentos entre otras formas creativas. Con las actividades que realizamos contribuimos al desarrollo social y a la permanencia de las tradiciones autóctonas de la región; a la conservación y visibilización de personas que no han encontrado escenario para denunciar la violencia que les ha tocado vivir. Manos Que Tejen Nuevas Mujeres es un círculo de 12 mujeres gestoras culturales de la ciudad de Buenaventura.
